How Are We Impacting Our Community?

Since our inception, Give Them a Chance has changed many lives in our community. GTC-Mumporeze Project has supported fifty children by paying for basic school materials, while also training them in self-reliance. To date, the project has provided child beneficiaries with entrepreneurship training; gifting them chickens and teaching them how to properly raise them. The money they receive from selling the eggs or chicks is funding their schooling. Over 60% of these children are from teen mothers who are struggling financially and trying to find a place in society.

GTC-Bring Back Their Dignity is changing the lives of eight unwed teen mothers. Many of them were raped or trapped, but all were victims of society's injustices as well as poor sexual health education. They represent some of the many women who are part of the steep rise in the rate of unwanted pregnancies in Rwanda and in many parts of the world. We are supporting these teen mothers with training in entrepreneurship, tailoring skills, human rights, and sexual reproductive health education. After 3 months of tailoring training, they have started to make money to support themselves and their children.

Our Current Activity!

The coronavirus pandemic has caused the lockdown of the country and has left many in uncertainty. The people who depended on daily wages for their food are being hit the hardest. But there is another group which is at risk of dying if nothing is done. These are our senior citizens. Because of their age, their immunity is low. People with chronic diseases and vulnerable families with malnourished children are also part of this vulnerable group.

GTC-COVID-19 Rapid Response Project beneficiaries are receiving food (cornflour, rice, oil), sanitary packs (soap, hand sanitizers) and personal protective equipment (facial masks). The facial masks are being sewn by the beneficiaries of our Give Them a Chance-Bring Back Their Dignity Project.

Our Upcoming Projects!

The unemployment, unwanted pregnancy, early marriage, domestic violence, and financial dependency rates keep increasing year in and year out for young women in Rwanda, who are also being constrained by cultural norms. This situation is having a major impact on the Rwandan society that will last well into the future. If nothing is done, the chain of poverty will continue to be passed from generation to generation. To tackle this problem and to support young women who are most affected, GTC is planning to establish an official Vocational Training Center. In this way, GTC will be able to continue improving the lives of women in the community.

You can be involved in improving the lives of these women by donating, volunteering, or contacting us with your ideas.
